Vacancy as Political and Public Diplomacy Advisor

Do you want to support Denmark’s green diplomacy through sharp analyses, strategic communications and relationship building with public authorities and decision makers? Here is an opportunity to join an ambitious and dynamic team at the Danish Embassy in Singapore. 

As small, open, advanced economies with green ambitions, Denmark and Singapore have many common interests. More than 15 bilateral collaboration agreements within green transition, infrastructure, fintech, maritime and digitalization are already established, and our collaboration keeps growing under the overarching headline of sustainability. We are looking for a skilled analyst, advisor and networker to support and develop these ties. We need an organised project manager to hold the strings of our government-to-government agreements and drive the day-to-day collaboration forward, while also being a creative communicator with a passion for public diplomacy efforts.


Your Role

As our new Political & Public Diplomacy Advisor, you will cover a broad range of issues relating to Singaporean policy issues and to Danish priority areas. The tasks may develop according to interests but include:

  • Manage and develop cooperation as liaison to relevant Danish and Singaporean authorities. 
  • Conduct research and analysis on various policy areas, societal developments and economic affairs with special reference to Singapore and Denmark. 
  • Drive the embassy’s public diplomacy agenda and strategic external communications incl. speech writing, events management and cultural affairs.  
  • Manage stakeholder relations and act as local lead for visiting and out-going delegations. 
  • Assist and carry out assignments related to export promotion and economic diplomacy. 
  • Provide input to the embassy’s presence on social media and press engagements on an ad hoc basis. 

Acting in an international and diplomatic setting, you will navigate in a wide network of external stakeholders across government, companies, academia and media. To succeed in the role, you work professionally and confidentially with important government-to-government tasks, such as drafting of background documents, preparing of meetings and sparring on political analyses. 

You will have direct reference to the Ambassador, and you will work closely with the other embassy teams. You will lead cross-embassy projects in the region and ensure clear, correct and concise communications, but not be responsible for any personnel.

Your Profile

We are seeking to recruit an open-minded, dynamic and creative team player to develop our public diplomacy and government-to-government affairs through an analytical and strategic approach. We expect our new colleague to have the following professional requirements:

  • A university degree in international relations, political science, law, economy and/or related fields. Preferably with a couple of years of experience working in an international, political environment. 
  • Extensive knowledge of Danish political priorities and the Danish model.
  • High proficiency in English and Danish – both oral and written. 
  • A strong pen and an eye for clear messaging and strategic communication.
  • A network builder with flair for navigating political environments.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work under pressure.

As a person, you are a self-starter who can lead projects from idea to the finish line. You take ownership of projects but seek for collaboration with the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the Embassy. We highly value passion, a positive attitude and a great sense of humour. 

Who Are We?

As Denmark’s official representation in Singapore, we advise and assist in a variety of areas, including commercial, cultural, press and consular affairs. We communicate and advocate on important policy topics, societal values and commercial strongholds of Denmark within climate solutions, digital innovation, food and agriculture, health, maritime, culture, arts as well as the Danish societal model.

The Royal Danish Embassy in Singapore totals 14 staff. We are an informal, international team and our work environment offers a high degree of independence, flexibility and responsibility. We work closely with colleagues at other Danish embassies across Southeast Asia. 

Employment Conditions

You will be offered a full-time employment on a local contract. The average workweek is 40 hours with a large degree of flexibility in organizing your daily schedule.As mission-employed staff, you are entitled to four weeks (20 days) of paid vacation per year and offered an attractive health insurance, which is applicable to spouse/partner and children. Your salary will reflect qualifications.
